How do you upload video from a digital camcorder to laptop?

How to upload a video from a camcorder to a laptop that has Vista?

  • I have a SONY handycam Model no:DCR-HC26E, i don't have the software as the video camera is not mine (friends). I have a HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop that has vista. Please help lol

  • Answer:

Specs http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2925&laptop=HP+dv2000+Compaq+v3000 indicate there may be a firewire (IEEE1394, DV, i.LINK) port. If so, then you need to know if it is a 4-pin or a 6-pin firewire port. If there is one and it looks like the 4-pin DV port on the camcorder, then you need a 4-pin to 4-pin firewire cable. USB will not transfer DV-quality video. USB-to-firewire cable/adapter/hub/converter things won't work. If your DV2000 has no firewire port, it has an available ExpressCard slot so you can get an expansion card and add one. Once the firewire port and cable items are addressed, just launch MovieMaker and "capture" the video from the camcorder which needs to be powered-up and in "Play" or "VCR" mode (this selection is controlled by the power switch)... Best if the camcorder is plugged into a known working AC outlet, too...
