How do I connect my older video camera to my computer?

I have an older video camera and a newer computer. How to connect them?

  • I have a cable that is the same on both ends. It appears to be a 4 pin dv cable, but my computer doesn't work with that attachment. Another thing I could connect them would be S Video, but my computer does not have an S video thing either. Is there maybe a usb cord that has a 4 pin dv thing or an S video attachment on one side? On the video camera next to the S video connect part it says "S VIDEO ID-2". I don't know if that is important or not. Please help!!! The video camera is a SONY model DCR-TRV520.

Other answers

The connections vary on the computer. Especially between a Mac and a PC. I know that the Mac has made a lot of adjustments on their connectivity with Camcorders. If you can't find a connection, then I doubt you can do it. Find alternative ways to connect them like Firewire. I know the Mac eliminated the Firewire on their new models of their Macs if you have that. We cant help you much unless you tell us more information about your computer.
