How to get videos from a camcorder onto a computer?

I have dvd recorder (handy cam) camcorder, how do i get the videos off the dvds and onto my computer?

  • the camcorder will allow me to to finalize the dvds but i cant seem to get them off the dvds and onto my computer so i can edit them and make videos.

  • Answer:

There are a couple of ways you can do it - take the disc out of your camcorder and put it in the DVD tray of your PC making sure it sits centrally in the small depression designed for it . Open Windows Explorer (or 'My Computer') and browse to the files on the disc and copy them to a suitable folder - if they are .vob flies change the extension from .vob to .mpg and you will be able to edit them in a video editing programme like Ulead VideoStudio . If they are already ,avi or .mpg you should then be able to edit them - again in VideoStudio Alternatively - - get yourself a video editing programme like Ulead VideoStudio then take the disc out of your camcorder and put it in the DVD tray of your PC making sure it sits centrally in the small depression designed for it . Inside VideoStudio select "Insert DVD/DVD-vr" and the programme will import the videos from your camcorder into the timeline of VideoStudio ready for editing.

Put the dvd in your computer then just drag the files into the destination folder. From there you should be fine.
