How do I take the static sound out of a video?

I recorded a video on my Nikon camera and it has a static sound. How can I get rid of that. I want to post it to Facebook and youtube, but not with the static sound...

Answer:
It depends a good deal on what you have for an audio editing program. Basically what is involved is to lower the overall volume; record that as a file, then amplify the new files to suit your needs. The newest file then get pasted back into your video. Some audio programs also include a pop and hiss reduction setting which might be usefull.
