What type of camcorder should I get for a wedding?

Sorry but you are looking at the wrong budget, start at around 3000 for a camera that will do what you need then multiply that by 2 because you need a backup camera, then you are going to need a good external mic, lighting, and that for the basic. Imovie is fine for "home videos" but when it comes to high quality video then it fails. Avid or adobe premiere premier are a good place to start. Scan disk I assume you are talking about flash drive, its ok but the quality is not that good, you are better off using p2 cards, but they are expensive it would blow your budget away, and so would the cameras. A macbook, to edit a full length video no way, unless they have upped the specs its not going to be able to handle the high compression video. I built my own computer (obviously not a mac) and with 24Gb ram and a twin processor Mb it sometimes coughs a little with an hour of video. In reality, its not a way to make a quick buck, (I do this as part of my living) equipment is expensive, and you need to know what you are doing or you are going to ruin someone's special day, you cannot make a mistake, it has to be perfect every time. you need to know the pitfalls of recording weddings, they are a nightmare. You can spend 10K on a camera, but unless you have experience in a professional environment, its not going to be good. Many year a go I contacted a few companies that did this, as well as outside broadcast, after a lot of pestering, one company gave me a job, part time, as I gained more experience i was able to do a little more. A few years later (more than I like to remember) Weddings are still a task, but they are regular. So you buy your cameras and equipment, shoot your video, and edit it, remember you have to get permission to use music (unless you create your own) this again can be expensive, as some companies charge by the second to use their music. What happens if you cannot film the wedding, you have an accident, or something else happens, you cannot just not turn up, you have ruined their day. INSURANCE (expensive) but needed. even if nothing else you can use it to have the wedding re staged and at least they will have a wedding video. this can run into many thousands of $$$$$$$. Start off maybe filming friends weddings, along side a professional, but for your own sake and the couples get some experience first. RR
