Anytime you convert analog to digital, you will lose quality, but loss of quality is better than losing all those old memories. **Please Note There is no 8mm or Hi 8 to VHS Adapter that currently exists. This type of VHS Adapter only exists with VHS-C tape

Well, I'd wager you easiest method would be a hybrid VHS-DVD recorder, which has the VCR and a DVD burner in the same unit. Cheapest, assuming you have a computer and a regular VCR, would be something like this: http://www.svideo.com/videousb.html That's pretty expensive, mind.
