Video camera? I'm trying to purchase my first digital video camera. I would like recommendations..?

I would tend to agree with the others on the technology factor , if I were you I wouldn't even look at buying anything which is dv (old tech) or dvd (old tech) i would be looking more at something which has a hdd , or the perfect scenario of sd hc hybrids, these are great on a range of different levels , hdd is good , but the rate of advancement doesn't allow you to upgrade memory as time goes on , sdhc is here to stay , is stable , and allows you to remove the media , and put another in , so you can save without the fear of deleting the things you want to keep over time. sony is the best optical as well as systematical , canons , I would say would be on par with SONY , and all known brands down really range marginally. for a firsty , I would suggest going a SVP t series high definition , they are around $150 australian , or $100US have all the features and functions and are robust , however your personal favorites will always prevail , so stick with something which you know or trust , the SVP would just be a recommendation based on price
