What is my sony Video Cassette recorder worth?

What is the best way to convert my old home cassette tapes to digital (or analog) video?

  • I have old 8mm pal cassette tapes and i dont know how to convert it to something thats going to last a long time. I tried using a dvd recorder but every few seconds the image stuttered. This may be due to the fact that it is a pal video source. I believe that may have been a NTSC recorder, as it was a Sony DVDirect Dvd recorder. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You may use the best software I have seen AVS Video Tools. It can convert to/from all key format, upload video or DVD directly to key portables like iPod, Sony PSP, Archos, Zen Creative, and mobiles. It can capture video from DV or webcams, TV tuners, DVB-T, DVB-S, transfer VHS tapes to DVD, remove commercials, edit video, copy and burn DVDs and video files: AVI (DivX, XviD, etc.), MP4, WMV, 3GP, 3G2, QuickTime (MOV, QT), SWF, DVD, VOB, VRO, MPEG 1,2,4, MPG, DAT, VCD, SVCD, ASF, H.263, H.264, RM, DVR-MS. There is the free download link: http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx?sct=aff&ct=regnow&cid=189508 Also, you can search some other ones: http://www.ask.com

Unless the equipment is designed to work with PAL it will not behave properly. Most of the time it won't generate a picture at all. Best is not the same as easiest. Easiest would be getting a PAL DVD recorder and play the 8mm tapes into it. It's worth noting old tapes and old machines may not be reliable. The "stutter" could be from the playback, not the recording. Tapes wear out. Even while at rest the material can deteriorate. Machines are similar. The 8mm player can have worn parts, brittle rubber, etc. Best would be to capture the tapes into a computer, edit, process, convert, and create a DVD. It's a lot more work but provides the best results. You can convert from PAL to NTSC or vice-versa, perform color correction, trim clips, move things around, adjust audio levels and EQ, and much more.

You can try E.M. HD Video Converter. http://www.effectmatrix.com/hd-video-converter/index.htm Key features: 1: convert your favorite videos to various HD (high definition) video formats like HD WMV Video, HD DivX Video, HD Xvid Video, HD H.264 Video, HD Quick Time Video, HD MPEG4 Video, HD FLV Video, HD TS Video, etc. 2: create Blu-ray folder for PS3 and Blu-ray player. besides, E.M. If you still have the camera, look for a capture device like Dazzle from Pinnacle. I'm guessing you have the old RCA cable connecter.
