  Are you going to be serious in video shooting, or are you using it for vacations/memories, or are you using it for random video? Also are you wanting HD video, or SD video? (I recommend HD if you can afford it) For professional video you'll need a camera with as many manual controls as possible, you also need the availability to hook external mics, and have a good image sensor (3CCD). They are very expensive however, and should be considered investments. And because HD is becoming more of the standard in video, and becuse recording to HD and down-sampling to SD gives better quality, you should invest in getting ether a HDV, DVCPRO, or a P2 card format camcorder. For regular consumer cameras I would recommend making the jump and buy a AVCHD camcorder, its a relative new format, but it can compresses HD video to tapeless mediums (Hard Disk,DVD,Flash Memory). But if your going to try and edit AVCHD on a PC you might find little support compared to Mac software like iMovie08 and Final Cut. If your just shooting random videos look at buying a flash camcorder, like Flip Video or Aptek's HD camcorders. There incredibly cheap, and are tapeless. You can easily edit the raw digital files on a Mac or PC with ease. However the quality of picture/sound can be poor, These are good for Youtube quality video.
