How do you transfer a video from a video camera to a computer?

How do I transfer video from a Panasonic pv-gs85 video camera to a computer?

  • I have a Panasonic pv-gs85 video camera and it calls for a firewire to transfer the recording saved on tape to a computer. I got the firewire and also a firewire hub because my notebook (which uses Windows Vista) lacks a firewire port. It does not work, the video camera doesn't even show up in the computer when connected. Any solution to this? Thanks.

You'll need to edit your question to give us enough information to work with. You won't be able to see your Camcorder in My Computer. The only way to transfer the videos recorded on MiniDV cameras is to connect the firewire up to your computer and run a capture program (e.g. Windows Movie Maker) while the camera is in playback mode. Is that "firewire hub" some sort of external device connected via USB to your notebook? That won't cut it for this purpose. You need a firewire->expresscard device (or firewire->PCMCIA card for older notebooks)
