How do I get a video file off a sony video camera disk?

How do I get video from an 8mm disk, recorded from a Sony Handycam?

  • No, I don't have picture motion browser software(lost the disk), nor do I have a firewire. I have a USB cable which doesn't work. Is there any downloads that can take video from the disk (finalized of course) itself, or if anyone has picture motion browser software (for free and NOT an update) that would be great.

Okay I had the same exact problem. Turns out that you need to actually record the footage onto the computer. If your working with a Mac I'm not sure how to do this but with Windows you have to buy a video recorder device. You plug in your red, yellow, white cables into this little box thing and then you record the footage onto the computer. These recorders are a bit pricey but you can use them for any device with red yellow white output cables (DVD players, VHS, etc.). I have a Dazzle brand recorder and it's been working pretty well. I'm not sure what a 8mm disk is. Video will not downlad via USB, sorry! You need to install a firewire (ieee1384) card in your computer and then you will need a firewire cord (iee1394). If your camera uses a mini dvd, after you finalize you should be able to put the disk in your computer and go from there. If you want to edit, you will have to open the editing program and copy and paste into the program, edit and then save to a new dvd.

I would suggest getting a new USB cable, then (I use) magix movie editor! I don't have firewire ports in my comp (ya i know)
