We just got a Canon Elura 100 and were shocked that we had to buy an extra cable to hook it up to the computer. The cable that came with it only downloads still photos to the computer! Look in the manual and it will tell you exactly which cable you need to hook it up. Then shop around. Our cable had a price range of $24 to $90! The newer macs and pcs come loaded with movie editing software, so look for it on there. On the pc it's called Windows Movie Maker and on the mac it's called something like iMovie, don't call me on that, I don't have a mac. It's good software to get you started, but if you want to get serious, you'll want to start shopping around for some quality editing software. Edited to add: Since you don't have the manual you can try to download one off the internet, or take the camera in to Best Buy and ask one of the Geek Squad which cable you need to make it connect the video to the computer.

More information is needed. What type of computer are you using? What operating system do you have(Windows 95, 98, xp, vista, Apple?) If you own an Apple you just plug in the video camera and use Imovie. On a PC you have to use either movie maker, or buy a program.

more info is needed - primarily the make/model of your camera. If its a digital video camera that uses mini-dvd's or digital camera with a USB port then the solution is simple. wither put the disc in your computer with the supplied software (from canon) to modify and load or plug in the USB cable. if your camera is regular tapes or 8mm tapes then the solution is much more difficult as you will require a capture device. These are usually a device that has audio left/right (red/shite) and video inputs (yellow) to connect to your camera - the device then plugs into your computer via USB. It will come with appropriate software to capture and process the video onto your computer. not easy but do-able.

You probably need a FireWire connection, if your camcorder and computer support it, otherwise you need a FireWire card to install into your computer. And you need software, like Microsoft Movie Maker or paid software like Premier, Studio Deluxe or you need an ULTRA fast computer and Avid Free (P4, 200 GHz, 1 GB RAM, XP PRO)
