How to upload a video from a Sony DCR- TRV530 camera to my computer for editing?

• I have filmed a video on my Sony DCR- TRV530 camera on a Hi8 tape. I now need to somehow edit the video and I can not seem to upload the video to my computer. I have a 2008 DELL computer and windows movie maker, but I don't know how to get my camera to connect to the computer. Thanks- Jilly R

  Hi8 = analog. You need a digtal/analog bridge like those from Pinnacle (Dazzle) or Canopus. ++++++++++++++++ I just read that the DCR- TRV530 is a digital8 camcorder that can also do Hi8. This camcorder has a DV port and can be treated like a miniDV tape based camcorder. You need a Firewire cable to connect the DV port on the camcorder to the firewire port on your computer. If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an expansion slot so you can buy/add one. Firewire400, IEEE1394a (might be "1394" on the computer), DV and i.LINK are all the same thing. Since you did not tell us which Dell, it is impossible to check to see if it already has a p1394 port or it it has an expansion slot so you can add a 1394 port. If you have to add one, do not get a Dynex card. USB will not work. USB-firewire converter adapters will not work.
