How do i transfer video from a Mini DV tape to my Computer?

How to copy video from DV to computer?

  • I made this video for my film class but I'm having trouble transferring over from the mini DV tape into a computer using Final Cut Pro. I tried Log and Capture but after that, I don't know how to save the video in the computer without having to use the DV tape ever again for editing. So does anyone know how to transfer all the content from the DV mini tape onto the computer, preferably using Final Cut Pro?

  • Answer:

You did not tell us which Mac. When I use Final Cut and import, I use "Capture" and pull the whole tape in - and log later. If you don't delete the sequence from Final Cut, it won't leave Final Cut.

HEre are some steps for you to follow. I hope they might help you. 1. Please connect your dv to your personal computer using an appropriate cable (usually a USB cable). 2. Turn on your capture device (if needed) and your personal computer. 3. After the operating system boots, install the device drivers from the disc supplied with the device or go to the device manufacturer web site and download and install the necessary drivers. After that you might need to restart your system. 4. Start DV transfer to your computer. 5. Select a video capture device and set up its parameters. 6. Set the scheduler in case you plan to stop capturing automatically at a certain time or when the captured video file size exceeds some value. 7. Change the audio format and device settings using the provided options. 8. Click "Start Capture" button to transfer your DV video to computer.

Every one has faild to answer the question. 1 I dont know the model of mac you are using but you will have to have a firewire connection check on the side of your computer Whee all the ports are USB there maybe a symbal like this one http://www.scribd.com/doc/214329/Brand-Identity-FireWire if you have one then you are in business, if not then you are going to have to find a computer with Firewire (mac) IEEE1394 (PC) they are the same thing and do the same job only the pins on the cable are different. Reading ag in it sounds like you have connected your camera. In FCP there will be a place to tell the software to capture the video, http://stc.iupui.edu/Final_Cut_Pro.php you will need you camera on and in play mode,. if you want you can capture the whole video or just portions of it, your coice. http://www.brighthub.com/multimedia/video/articles/3393.aspx Hope that helps RR
