Sony vx2000 firewire?

Help! I have a Sony DV camera (its pretty old) and when i connect it through firewire 800 it won't work!?

  • Basically, the camera has a 4 pin firewire connector. So, I connected it via firewire 800 to my macbook pro. However, it did not work. Then i tried connecting it through a firewire 400 port onto my friend's older macbook pro, and it did work. But, again it did not work through his firewire 800 port. So I don't know if the cable is broken or if the camera is unable to support 4-pin to firewire. Either of those options sound pretty weird, so HELP? Thank you in advance.

  • Answer:

Well... I used to connect my Sony and Canon camcorders' DV ports to my iMac's firewire 400 port. Now I have a new iMac and it has a firewire 800 port and I can transfer video with a 4-pin to 9-pin firewire cable just fine. I'd say it is a cable issue. Another thing to check is whether the firewire 800 port is active. In OSX version 10.5.8: System Preferences: Network... be sure the Firewire port is active. And don't forget that the camcorder needs to be in Play/Edit mode...
