I have a samsung camcorder.

Can I play my 8mm tapes from a Samsung camcorder on any 8mm camcorder?

  • Hi, I have a Samsung VP D55 camcorder. I recently lent it to my brother in law who is accident prone! The tapes will not play on the camcorder now, I have some of my wedding video on another tape that I really want to view. Can I play my 8mm tape on another camcorder if I buy another 8mm or do I need ot buy another Samsung? I don't think that the tapes were Samsung specific, I think they were just general tapes. Many thanks.

  • Answer:

video8 tapes recorded at the SP mode interchange with all other video8 devices including Hi8. if the tapes were recorded at LP, those can only be played back in the originating camcorder. if they were recorded at LP, don't buy another camcorder without testing first to see if they will play properly. this is a case of luck, you might actually find another camcorder that works. it is not really the brand that is the issue.

Other answers

Go with lare, as he said the only problem you may have is if they were recorded in LP, but apart from that, you will be fine. Get them onto your computer as sopon as you can and put the original tapes away in a sealed plastic bad with a good handful of rice to keep them dry. they will last much longer. RR
