Is it possible to do a live broadcast with a regular camera?

Is it possible to record 'Live' video and then 'stream' that live video using a CAMERA?

alright so heres what we want to do Camera > Ustream with almost no time delay we will be going to local skate competition and would love to have the video broadcast 'live' I know the camera will probably be a few grand but price is no object... well it is but we are willing to spend what is needed so how would we go about doing this / what cameras are able to do this? another thing we thought of is, would it be possible to have a camera 'stream live' to a PC, and have that PC output the video to ustream?, we'd be a fair distance away from the laptop as well, so if this is the way it has to be done, how close to the laptop do we have to be?

On the iPhone they have a Ustream App that allows you to stream live what your iPhone camera is showing, but you just have to have the app open. It also gives you a link while you are streaming that you can send to people to see the live stream
