I have read good reviews about Canon HV30, but find it too expensive. I want to begin with a decent cheap Video camera that I can learn and grow with. Please suggest.

Being into filming myself, i know a little about videos and cameras/camcorders. ANY video can be transferred into Black and white in editing through Windows Movie Maker or iMovie (which are built in editing programs on any computer) , IF NOT being able to record in Black and White. So it seems you have a budget that isn't too high. If you're looking into making it into more of a "film" look. I HIGHLY suggest a DSLR Camera. Though not meant originally for video, those are probably the best devices to record video with on a consumer budget. (Some of the Cheaper ones cost around $500) The great thing is that they have High Definition Quality with manual focus so that you can get Depth of Field, which is what gives you the feel between objects and how close or far apart they are. You see it a lot in movies. There's a lot more great features about them, so if you're interested, inquire about DSLRs. BUT, if you're looking into a casual camcorder, I suggest you look into the sony handy-cam series. They've got amazing quality and features for the price, around $250+. AND if you're looking to go cheaper and more casual, the "flip" is the camcorder for you. Around $70, It's basic. turn it on, click and button and you're recording HD video. They're really compact and use AA batteries so if you're on the go, no need to charge it. So i hope this helped!
