Is the Sony handycam HDR-XR160 a good first video camera?

  • I am looking to buy a video camera, my price range is $800AUD (Australian dollars) or below. The Sony handycam HDR-XR160 to me is what I'm looking for in terms of price and features. Is this a good camcorder? or are there better ones at a comparable or lower price that I should consider? Features that are important for me are Full HD, Medium to Big Memory, external mic input, tripod compatible, decent battery life.I will be primarily be using this for youtube and general recording.

Well I can only tell you about my own Cam, the Sony HDR-XR155e, which I bought earlier this year at a cost of GBP550 (about $700) and I can tell you it is a totally amazing little camcorder.
