How do you put your 8mm tapes on your computer?

I there anyway to put VHS tapes onto the computer from a digital 8 camera?

  • I want to take some video off a bunch of VHS tapes my family has and edit the footage on Imovie. Is there anyway i could put the VHS tapes into the camera then edit it that way? or is there a way i could put the video dirrectly into the computer and edit it that way..

    You will need a VHS Player AND A VIDEO CAPTURE BOARD on your computer - Simply plug-in the player to the video inputs on the computer like you would for a TV. OR: You can use your DIGITAL- 8 Camera as a Pass-Through / Converter (If your camera has this feature, Check the manual) Plug the VHS Player to the camera INPUTS And Connect the Cameras DV port to the computers DV port. Or you can get a Stand-Alone converter (Analog To DV) from Dazzle or Sony or Canopus. Sorry But, the video (Realistically) MUST be converted to DV before you can work with it. P.S. DON'T Try using the USB-Type Converters, they lack bandwidth and can result in stalling, freezing, crashing, dropped frames Out-Of-Synch audio and poor quality audio/video. Hope This Helps. Yes. It will cost you a couple hundred dollars. A small box will transfer analog video in from your camer or vhs player and transfer the video out in digital format to your computer. You can buy it anywhere. And the cost is well worth it if you have alot of memories backed up on vhs.

Check whether your camcorder has a pass through feature. If it does, you can connect the camcorder to the VHS player via AV cables and to the computer via firewire. You can then capture the VHS on your Mac. If you haven't got pass through you should still be able to record on the camcorder and then capture on the Mac but it'll take twice as long.
