What is a good portable video camera for business use?

  • My company is having me take on A/V duties, and with these A/V duties they have put me in charge of finding the best affordable video camera. My co-workers right now are recording video through their digital cameras or cell phones. There is no shaky cam, so I am working with these awful videos. They want to send video cameras out with people when they go to jobsites. The issue is that we need a video camera that is super portable, affordable and can get a pretty steady video without a tri-pod. Suggestions?

    A Flip is a good video camera. And I am pretty sure they are cheaper than a regular camera. They have a good quality and are compact. Hope this helps.

Can you be a bit more specific about "super portable" and "affordable", please? What's your order of priorities - is portability more important than steadiness, for example? I don't know what you mean by a "jobsite" - is that a building / construction site? If so, does the camcorder have to operate in dusty, wet, cold or loud conditions? Will people need to use it while they're wearing gloves? What about ruggedness, is that an issue? Having edited your video, what will you do with it?
