How can I transfer a VHS video into a DVD?

How can i transfer video from my dv camcorder to my PC or onto DVD....HELP! (It was so easy with VHS)?

    Most DV camcorders have an IEEE 1394 or 'Firewire' socket somewhere on their body. This connection will let you connect your camcorder digitally to your PC so you can transfer the DV footage in realtime using software such as Apple's iMovie on a Mac or Windows Moviemaker on a PC. You will need the correct cable and your PC will need a Firewire port, NOT USB. Many PC's don't have firewire ports so a PCI or PCIe Firewire card would need to be installed. These items can all be bought cheaply on eBay though. It can also get tricky if there are gaps or timecode breaks in the original DV recording. Using a video transfer service that specialises in transferring video tapes to dvd such as http://www.thegreatbear.net/video-tapes-to-dvd/ is another good solution.

MINIDV You have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder . Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, Firewire to usb will not work to download video. You might end up with only sound or only video. Your PC might not have a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, you need to buy a firewire cord too. Your camcorder came with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode. If you have a laptop, make sure your laptop has an empty bay for a card. The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection. **
