What should I consider when buying a camcorder?

What features to consider in buying camcorder?

  • Answer:

you should considor weather the camera records in high definition or not. HD will provide much higher resolution than regular camcorders and theirfore will provide immensly crisp and clear picture. HD cameras are expensive though and if you dont have a large HD tv to view footage on, it is pointless you must considor the format of the camcorder; tape (mini DV, Hard drive or DVD) the benefits of a tape camera is the cheap price but you can only record 1 hour on each tape. the benefits of a hard drive camcorder are that they can record for long periods and you can drag and drop footage using windows explorer, they are however quite expensive. A dvd camera has the benefit of 'shoot. eject. play'. this is where you can take the mini DVD out of the camera and put it directly in a DVD player. another format that u may considor is flash memory based camcorders. these generally are cheap and record small amounts of low quality footage. however, they have no moving parts so u can shake them around a bit!

It depends on what kind of use you plan. - Size matters. You're recording light, so your camera must receive enough inside... the bigger the camera (lenses part) the better if you want quality, of course you don't want a studio camera, you need to equilibrate size with something you can handle with one hand (unless it is for your wife's purse). - Manual controls (unless it is for your wife's purse) - Zoom: the 'optical zoom', the higher the better (typically >10x). Notice this is different from the 'digital zoom' which is useless. - Battery life (why do you want a capacity of 60 hours of video if the battery only lasts 1 hour?) - Media: I prefer miniDV cassette but it's gone, then you have Hard Drive. I don't like the ones that record on DVD because it requires more time and steps to use the DVD outside the camera. - Brand
