How do you put your 8mm tapes on your computer?

Recording 8mm tapes to computer via camcorders?

  • Okay, I'm having a budget crisis here, which is why I can't afford to buy a capture device. I want to record my super 8mm tapes to my computer but I want to capture it via another camcorder. In short, from my super-*** old camcorder to my HD 1080i camcorder via A/V input/output. However, I'd like to know how to connect my HD camcorder to my computer so that I can record the footage from my 8mm tapes to my computer so can anyone help? Also can I record it in my HD camcorder rather than in my computer?

  • Answer:

no, and no. to put anything into a computer it has to be in a digital file form. that is the job of the analog video capture card. your Hi8 (super8 is motion picture film) tapes are analog. A/V cables only transfer analog video. your HD camcorder only has AV output, and no AV input. the only way of not spending any money would be to playback the Hi8 camcorder to a television set, and then shoot the television screen with the HD camcorder. crappy quality, but no cost. the HD camcorder should have USB to connect to the computer.
