Are there real jobs in the studio recording?

What will i need for a (cheap) home recording studio?

  • My friends and i have decided to start a rap group. We dont have a recording studio and would like to own one. We're 15 without jobs So money is an issue. We dont even have enough money for a professional microphone. We do have FL Studio. Is there anyway we can still have a recording studio? What do we need in order to have a decent studio? Maybe just FL and a mic?

First of all, why did you post it here? Look at the category man. Now because you already posted I should help you out. Here goes: >You'll need a great PC at first (At least a Quad Core AMD/Intel and 8gigs of RAM should make it a breeze) And a high resolution monitor. (preferably FULL HD or 1600x900) >A software. (which you already have). Some good plugin effects/instruments. >For Hip Hop, nothing gets better than Propellerhead Reason. Try getting that. If you currently are outta money, download from warez-bb. Man, trust me hip hop music is incomplete without Reason >One (or more) dude that knows well about computer hardware/software, sound and can trouble shoot. And will not get lost in many hardware/software technical terms when comparing stuff. And knows how to hook up audio/computer hardware to each other when new items arrives. >A dude that can run and knows many tricks/shortcuts about the softwares. Preferably get yourself good tutorials on the softwares you'll use. VTC is there and so is Groove 3. If you can't buy, just download from torrent and stuff for now. Just as important as hardware if not more. Trust me you'll get nowhere without knowing all the corners of these softs. >A MIDI controller is a must. Without it you ain't makin no music man. Get a cheap M-Audio Keyrig 49 at the very least. Or get an Axiom/Akai MPK 49/MPK 61. Novation Sl mkII. etc. >An Audio Interface/cheap mixer. Listen recording won't work with your stupid PC sound cards. You need lots of I/O. There's the Tascam US-600 if you are real tight on Budget. Don't get below that. You'll waste your money. There's the Line 6 POD Studio UX2. Or save some cash and get a Focusrite Saffire 24. If you are going to rely totally upon software, then get the Tascam US-1800 because you won't need the outputs that way. >A(Some) mic(s). There's the M-Audio NOVA. Audio Technica 2020 and also MXL 2001A. All should be within $100. Don't get any lower than that. Don't get Dynamic mics thinkin they are cheap. Dynamics are for Live/conference. >Monitors. Now I know it is going to be real tough for you guys to get a stereo monitor set. They are at the very least $300. You getting lower than that, and you are buyin total crap. So, just get some REAL good monitoring headphones for now. Make some music, make some money then get bookshelf monitors. Remember you aint going no where with recording without big monitors. Great headphone is Audio Technica M-50. M-45 or Sennheiser HD280. Don't get any lower than that (lower than $100-120) for your MAIN monitoring headphone. And get some cheaper AKG-K99, Sennheiser HD 228 or Audio Technica M-35 for others. >Last but not least, you need a quiet room with good acoustic behavior. Buy some acoustic padding to cover the walls with. If you have no money, make yourself some. Works like a charm. Buy some cheap foam and stuff and put it in a plywood frame. Cover that with a piece of cloth and hang those around all the large flat parts around the room, directly behind where you'll sing and on the roof facing you people. Buy some anti reflectors to put around the mic on the mic stand. And get a large soft carpet to cover the floor with. >Yeah, pretty much it. Hope fully I mentioned everything. And I hope it helps. Cheers :D
