Answer:
The selection of appropriate camcorders in your price range makes a fairly short list. You did not tell us what you are currently using - and we do not know why it is a PoC or what "difficulties" you are having. For all we know it is a perfectly fine consumer camcorder that is not being used in the manner for which it was designed... or, perhaps it is doing its job properly, but the difficulties you are having are more related to transfer to computer for editing. It is entirely possible that getting a replacement camcorder will merely result in more of the same problems... I do not know what a "common" video camera is. In the $ range you specify, there are flash memory and hard disc drive camcorders that record highly compressed MPG, MOD and possibly MOV format video files. They might need to be transcoded before a computer's video editor can deal with them. There are miniDV tape based camcorders that require your computer to have a firewire port because USB connectivity for high quality DV format video causes problems. There are flash memory and hard disc drive camcorders that can record high definition video - but your computer hardware configuration needs to be able to handle the video editors that can deal with the MTS, M2TS, TOD or MOV files that are created by the camcorder. To add a lens to a camcorder - tele, wide-angle or fish-eye (which is just a really wide-angle) - consumer grade camcorders have a specification, "Filter diameter" or "Lens filter diameter". This means there are threads available to add a screw-on filter or lens. We have no idea how big your fist is. Check the Sony HDR-CX100 series and Canon HF and HF series. I just got a Canon HF S100 for about $700. It meets all your specs and has a mic jack and manual audio gain control. But the AVCHD video has very special requirements for computer use and editing. Panasonic and JVC have possibilites, too. Because of the possible "jarring" nature skateboarding, it is suggested that you stay away from hard disc drive camcorders. But before you do ANYTHING, it would be helpful to know why you have problems now - you may just be spending $ for a new camcorder for no improvement. But at the moment, we have no way to know.
