Convert a cassette to a DVD?

How can I convert a cassette home video into a CD or DVD?

  • My dad had a video camera in the early 90s and now we have a bunch of cassette tapes, but no way to watch them. How can we convert them into a CD or preferably a DVD to watch on TV?

  • Answer:

The easiest way to to have a vcr's video output plugged into a dvd recorder's video input. Then play the tape on the vcr while recording on the dvd player. But if you can't play them you must not have a vcr. A lot of places that develop film also will convert home movies to dvd's for you. Check at a Walgreens or Rite Aide or something in the photo department.

Are they VHS or minidv cassettes? MINIDV You have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder…. Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, Firewire to usb will not work to download video. You might end up with only sound or only video. Your PC might not have a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, you need to buy a firewire cord too. Your camcorder came with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode. If you have a laptop, make sure your laptop has an empty bay for a card. The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection. ANALOG *If you have an analog (VHS) camcorder… or VHS-c... You need an analog converter, either internal card or external such as the dazzle. It's very easy to use and come with good software. You would hook your analog VHS camera or VCR to the analog converter, the dazzle and then hook the dazzle to your PC. The dazzle cost around 85.00 , but worth the money if you have a lot of VHS to tapes to convert. Anytime you convert analog to digital, you will lose quality, but loss of quality is better than losing all those old memories. **Please Note There is no 8mm or Hi 8 to VHS Adapter that currently exists. This type of VHS Adapter only exists with VHS-C tape They also make VHS to DVD recorders and they work fine for home movies that you don't want to edit. They do not work on copyrighted DVD's.

this is a time consuming project as you can only capture the video as it is being played, you can find good working vcrs in second hand stores or ebay (stereo would be better) , along with capture cards a capture card is a device that plugs into your pc either via a usb port or inside you desktop computer, leads connect from the vcr to the capture card yellow = video signal red =audio black or white =audio use the left channel if not a stereo vcr you install the software that comes with your capture card, place your tape into vcr hit the play button and also the record button on your pc be warned that the newly created file will be extremely large , google hornstech
