How do I burn a DVD from hard disk camcorder?

Can I record HD video from my HD camcorder and burn it to a normal DVD and still have it play in HD?

  • Hi :) I'm going to be making some short films soon and I'd like to clear a few things up. I'm using a HD Camcorder to record the video and I was wondering if I could burn the final cut onto a standard blank DVD and still watch it in HD. Do I have to burn it to a blu-ray disk? Will it still be in HD? and if so do I have to buy a blu-ray burner? Sorry for all the questions :P This problem only just came to my attention since I definitely want the whole film in HD. Are there any work-arounds to getting it in HD without spending too much money?

  • Answer:

You can't have HD on a standard DVD (one that will play in a DVD player). However, you can use a DVD like a CD and put video files on it that are in HD—but you'll need a computer to play back the videos, since a standard DVD player won't recognize them. You can burn full HD directly to a Blu-ray disc, with the right software. You'll need a Blu-ray burner. There are lots of camcorders now that can shoot in HD, including full Blu-ray HD (which requires 1920x1080 pixels and at least a 2-megapixel image sensor), so that shouldn't be a problem. Many of them are quite affordable. Blu-ray burners aren't that expensive, either. You can even upload full HD to YouTube.

I shoot my video with a SD camcorder. I use my NLE to make a 1080P MPEG2 clip for upload to youtube. I know if I set the file setting to DVD compatible, it sets the frame rate and picture parameters much lower. My NLE lets me make AVCHD, Blue-ray Disk, HD DVD, DVD, SVCD and VCD. I do not have a Blue ray drive in my computer, not yet anyhow. Experiment, just do not delete the source footage or the project you burned form computer until you have it working as you want.

the answer is technically yes, but not really as its too impractical there is no provision for the media or the players anymore. unless you already have them read this

No! It will just be in SD. You need to burn it onto a HD Bluray disc.
