I want to play back the video the SAME way I recorded it (5 points)?
-
I recorded my friend for 4 minutes, and the fiel took up like 2GB, I want it smaller, but when I convert it smaller, I want it to still play back the same way I recorded it. I know it won't be the same quality but I need the speed, to stay the same. ====== I'm confused .. This program asking me 1. The Video Size (e.g.640x480) 2. Then the Frame Rate (e.g. 15 frames /s ) 3. Then the Codec (e.g. Cinepak,Intel,Microsoft RLE,Xvid MPEG-4, Divx MPEG Fast Motion) So what settings do I use to decrease the size to smallest, put still keep the video playing at the same speed??

Answer:
It really depends on what your final output is for... Let's assume that you want to put it to television (which is 640x480, at 60interlaced frames per second/30progressive frames per second) Also, it depends on what frame rate you recorded at. Unles your camera cost more than a couple of grand, chances are it's 60i/30p. If you can't set the frame rate on your camera, then it is 60i/30p All that said, your settings will be this: Video size: 640x480 Frame rate: 30 Codec: * *Each of the codec's have it's own ups and downs... from your list and (pardon me for saying) your lack of knowledge, it seems like the Divx will most likely be your best quality-to-file-size ratio. Each codec "should" (I say that because it's not always true, nor always clear) let you adjust the "quality" or "Datarate" of the compression. The higher the quality, the higher the file size, and vice versa. You may want to experiment a bit as well. In most cases with codecs, it comes down to what you think is the best one. Like Mac or PC, you'll get heroldings and neysayings for each from everyone you ask. Hope that helps.

640x480 will be fine and is good enough quality for viewing without using much space 15 frames is good i would pick mpeg 4 saves alot of space. your final video will turn out to be about 5-10 mb TaDa

The answer depends on whether you're working with NTSC or PAL - if you're in the US it's NTSC, just about everywhere else it's PAL. For NTSC it's 720 x 480 and 30 frames / sec For PAL it's 720 x 576 and 25 frames / sec You can play with the video size if you're not going to display your video on a TV, but it'll look better if you keep the same ratio. The XviD and DivX codecs will give you the smallest file sizes.
