Why won't my windows media player play my videos?

Bought a new camera, after i upload the videos to my computer, windows media player doesn't play the files...

  • so basically, i bought a sony dcr sr 200, and everytime i upload videos, when i play them with windows media player, it say's, error downloading codec. what codec do i need, and where do i get it http://media.putfile.com/xghdfghd thats the clip

  • Answer:

YOu need to use conversion software to change from the SONY format to AVI for editing OR you need to buy Vegas + DVD (a Sony product). Pro packages like Premier or Avid Pro might be able to obtain a Codec for the Sony format. But the free ones currently don't. Codecs require someone pay a licensing fee to Sony.
