How do I burn a video onto a DVD RW?

Can you burn video from a sd card in a hdd camcorder or flash to a computer and then onto a dvd rw cd?

  • anyone with experience of doing it?

  • Answer:

Sure...it's quite easy, but can take a while if it's high-capacity card.....just put the card into a card reader or do it direct from the camera. Download as you for would normal pictures. When you plug the card reader or camera into the computer a box appears 'with a -what-to-do' menu...choose 'copy to a file on my computer',click 'ok' or 'next' and the copying begins. Unplug the reader or camera when the download gets to 'finish'. The video is still on the card...only a copy is made to the computer. From there,a number of programs are available to copy onto dvd or cd,or you may have something already in the computer..Windows has a file-to-cd copy function built in which does still pictures and video, data files, allsorts. Right click on the file and choose 'send to',then 'drive D'..A balloon appears saying 'you have files waiting to be copied'...click on it,put a blank disk into the drive, select copy, and it's all automatic from there. Some part-used disks can also be used, but not 'finalised' ones. Normal DVD copies are always finalised. The pictures and videos play back in Windows Media Player,Realplayer, and many others...you can choose one as a default player from Windows,or choose whichever you want at the time. They also play on comapatble dvd players...still pics and video. If it says JPEG compatable,or cd picture player, it will most likely play your disks. You can mix both still pics and video onto the same cd as well. Usually all the videos will be grouped together, and all the pics grouped together,on playback,or you can look at the contents (files) on the disk and play whichever you want..some programs, you can have pics and video in any order...Roxio Creator and Photoshop both have video-to-dvd or you can also copy onto cd-r and play them from that on the computer or from a dvd player with cd-r compatability....most of mine are on cd-r...they turn out good, and are cheap to buy...you can make as many copies as you like...the second and following copies are a bit quicker than the first one because all the encoding and encapsulating is already done....there's just the burning to do. You can get an hour or so of video,or more than 600 pictures onto a cd,depending on the quality...high-resolution pics and video take a lot of space. When the disk is finished it will reject automatically...just put another disk in to make another copy...label the disks as they come out with a cd-marking pen (W.H.Smiths or loads of other places) while the next one is copying...best time to do it..you can print labels later onto special sheets made for it. If you're using a dvd player for playback, make sure the disks you use are compatable with that player....there's lots of types......dvd-r,dvd+r,rw-r,rw+r ,cd-r,cd+r, e=mc^2...haha... what a mess it's in,eh?...otherwise no probs and easily done. You can also copy video files downloaded from the internet, though some need upgraded versions of the downloader...Realplayer does copies to music cd on the free version but dvd's need the 'paid-for' upgrade. I've got a lot of Live Earth disks made that way,and make disks for entertainment on long journeys the same way. There are free-ware video editors and downloaders on Filehippo,CNet,and many other sites,if you want to do some messing-about with the video before you copy it to cd.

If you have enough space then yes. If you then want to use it in, say, a dvd player, then you must make sure that it supports the format that you put on the dvd rw cd.

Yes. Yes.
