Why can't I get my videos to show up in Windows Movie Maker?

How can i get the Dazzle / Pinnicle videos i make on Vista onto windows movie maker?

  • ok, so i have my dazzle/ pinnicle dvd recording program set up. works fine, only one problem; every time i try to put the dvd in and open documents, the video i imported isnt there. it is supposed to be in the VIDEO_TS folder, in the video section. but whenever i open this folder it always gives me the message "this folder is empty." which isnt true because i just put in a dvd. so then i tryed to import it onto windows movie maker, and it wont take it because its in the wrong format. i have tryed converting, or even better trying to record what i do on my game on WMM. on windows XP there is a "capture from video device" option on it, but on vista it doesnt. and now i have to record games the hard way. i cant find the right video, because it makes about 6 files, and it wont play on windows media player because its not in the right format. i have heard you have to download a bunch of crap, but i dont need that. i get too much spam and fake alerts that way. all i need to do is get it on WMM so i can convert the files. but i cant because every time i try to open one of my video folders, the message "this folder is empty" always shows up. and that has gotten on my last nerve. and finding this "right format" crap is confusing, and sometimes it gets EXTREMELY frustrating. i need to know if there is a program where i can record my game on windows movie maker(vista) so life can be about 1000x easier. going through all of these different files just to find one thing is retarded, i shouldnt have to look through every folder just to find one file. any easy way to do this is the better

  • Answer:

Windows Movie Maker cannot read VOB format (the video object used with DVD). Pinnacle's Dazzle DVD Recorder will record DVDs, but if you just want your analog video as a digital file on your computer you need a capture device such as Pinnacle's MovieBox or Canopus. If you have a MiniDV camcorder, you can simply plug the camera directly into your PC via USB or FireWire and capture the video with software. HDD camcorders make this easier as they record MPEG files which can open directly in Windows Movie Maker.
