Tips for new camcorder?

Camcorder sony HRR SR10E importing video files?

  • Hi there, I am new to my new purchase of Sony Camcorder and have just installed the software and when I download the video files the ext is .m2ts and .modd I have never heard of this extension before. Also can I download of my camcorder without the software? I am going travelling and just thought if I dnt have the software can I still get the movies and pics of my camcorder and burn them onto DVD. Can someone also tell me the best format I can set on my camcorder to just have standard recording as it's only basically to put on DVD for my family to view so I won't be editing it. Any more handy tips would be most helpful! I know there is a manual and I am going through that too. Thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!! Freebirdnz

  • Answer:

That camcorder writes AVCHD format files for high definition video. That's the M2ts file type. A current version of Sony Vegas can deal with this (MovieMaker cannot). The .mod files are an MPEG2 variant for standard definition. This needs to be converted into a format your computer/video editing apps can understand, too. That's why there are things to install on that disc in the box. Once you get the video in to the editor, you can saves as whatever the editor allows for... then you bring that saves as file into a DVD authoring application and it will take care of the format for playback in a "regular" DVD. The quality you record in is subjective - shoot at different formats and see what makes you happy...
