I need help buying a good video camera.

I need some help buying a video camera...?

  • My fiance and I are expecting and he really wants a new video camera for his birthday next week. He has mentioned that he wants a Hi-Def camera, but I'm not really sure what to look for in a camera. The main use for the camera is to take videos of the new baby when he arrives. I would like to get him a decent camera but I don't want to spend a ton of money. I'd like to keep it under $400 if possible. I don't know if it's better to get one with a hard drive or if it's better to get one with an external memory card. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Answer:

The JVC Everio HD camcorders are good, but you're looking at ~ $500 for any HD camera. Pretty much all full sized HD camcorders have moved to internal hard disks for speed and recording capacity. If you're looking for short video clips without telephoto zoom, the Flip cameras have HD quality at $200 prices. Just don't expect to record for hours.
