  Which Mac? The Sony DCR-HC26 is a miniDV tape based camcorder. Sony has no software. You don't need any from them if what you want to do is import the digital video from that camcorder to your Mac... You will use iMovie which has been bundled with Macs since the OS9.2 days. Most Macs made in the last 10 years or so have a firewire port. The newest MacBooks and the MacBook Air do not have a firewire port and no way to add one. Presuming your Mac is in the majority of those with a firewire port: 1) Be sure the camcorder is power off - and the Mac is On. 2) Connect the AC power adapter to the camcorder - you don't want to be running on battery power when inporting DV. Connect the DV port of the camcorder to the firewire port on the Mac. Trying to use the USB ports on the camcorder or the Mac for importing video will not work. 3) Power on the camcorder - it needs to be in "Play/Edit" mode. 4) Launch iMovie; name the project file, select "DV", select the file destination on the Mac's hard drive. Create or OK... 5) The iMovie window will open and should be a blue screen that indicates the camcorder is connected. Rewind the tape (from iMovie or the camcorder) if needed. Click import. Most Macs has a firewire 400 port. This means you need a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable. Some newer Macs have a Firewire 800 port. This means you need a 4-pin to 9-pin firewire cable. The DV port on the camcorder is always the 4-pin side of the cable.
