How to get videos from my compact VHS, to my computer?

Convert VHS to DVD to edit on computer?

  • I have a VHS tape with 2 versions of my wedding on it. I would like to be able to have this video converted to a format that I could edit on my computer (most likely using Windows Movie Maker) and later burn to a DVD (a combination of both videos...). What is the best way to do this? I could possibly get ahold of both of the originals (one is a Hi8 and the other a VHS-C) but for now all I have is a regular VHS tape with both of them on it. Any suggestions?

  • Answer:

U can try this: Buy a video capture card from SIM LIM SQUARE(around $150 can use it to record TV show also) then output your source video to ur PC via RGB cable depending on how old ur VCR is. Then record using the software provided... This is one of the easiest way. As for quality-wise, I cannot tell as it all depends on your VCR & how old ur VHS is. However, there are many places will do the conversion for u at a price I think around $50 or less for a tape.

I bought a TV card for my PC and hooked up a VCR/DVD combo. I can record VHS to DVD or DVD to DVD. Doesn't matter what "restrictions" the media has, if I can see it on a TV screen, I can copy it.

You have to use a capture card, you can get it from the auction site it cheap but make sure it come with the software. Cheers.
