How do I activate a camera for my mac?

Is my video camera Compatible with my Mac Computer?

  • I bought a cheap video camera (aiptek), and I didn't notice till I got it home that the camera is "designed for Windows"....I HAVE A MAC ! Is it only talking about the included software that's compatible with the Windows system? I have other video programs on my Mac, but I want to make sure the video format will still be usable. It's a DV video camera, D1, VGA, and QVGA formats for video, and it also takes still shots like a regular camera for photo's. Thanks in advance!

  • Answer:

Congratulations on having a real computer. You should be able to connect that camcorder to your Mac using USB and it should mount to the desktop like any other mass-storage device... copy the video data files to your Mac... To deal with the very highly compressed video that camcorder captures, in order for iMovie to use it, you may need to download, install and use StreamClip to convert the video to something iMovie can deal with... http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html Clarification: We know Aiptek makes video cameras that save to digital file formats - but it is NOT a DV video camera. Real DV is a video format that miniDV tapes and certain high end external drives and pro-grade video gear uses... not what consumer grade flash memory or hard drive based camcorders use.
