What is the best camcorder to buy for a family?

I would like to know a make and model of the best camcorder! I need to video kids sporting events. The zoom feature must be better than average to view from stands and get close up good quality shots. Budget is not as important, but must be reasonable. What are some other factors to consider? I have have never purchased camcorder, only digital cam with video capability. Thanks!

HV30 LOVE. Beautiful resolution, easy to use, zoom will be adeqate. You will need a firewire port on your computer and a firewire cable. If you a mac your are in luck. If not you might need to install a port. http://www.vimeo.com/markhd/videos any of my vids execpt the first one
