Why won't my camcorder turn on?

Why a new Canon DC100 DVD camcorder will not turn on--even with new battery.?

  • We just bought a new camcorder (discontinued) and we want to keep it, because we cannot exchange it--only get a refund. Well, the battery is fully charged (new charger, we purchased separately), but the camcorder blinks two red lights really quickly and will not come on. I reset it, just because. It still will not come on. What could be the problem? Serious answers only, please. This camcorder is going to be used to document my pregnancy and the baby.

  • Answer:

In the troubleshooting section of the manual (download here - http://alpha03u.c-wss.com/inc/ApplServlet?RQF=MENU&RQS=WWUCA910&LA=1178748972355&SV=WWUCA900&menu=MA&TRF=MAIN ), the only suggestion for the camcorder not turning-on is to recharge the battery. Did you try to operate the camcorder when it is powered by the AC adaptor? If the camcorder works with the AC adaptor, then the problem is most likely a bad battery. If the camcorder doesn't work with the AC adaptor, then the problem is most likely the camcorder itself. You can also email your question directly to Canon customer service: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=SupportMailWSSSAct&fcategoryid=261&modelid=13078 , based on my experience, Canon is pretty good at responding to their emails within 1-2 days.

when buyers bye an item that has been discontinued, BYERS BEWARE! once you buy it , plain and simple - YOU OWEN IT! the sad er part of this is you can get it fix but it will cost you money, if you just purchased the camera less then 30 day's ago that means the warranty is still valid and it will cost you nothing! but if your child is due soon you still may have a major problem! it takes an average of 6 weeks or longer to ge it repaired! oh just so you know I used to manage a RITZ CAMERA store for 3 years, what I told you is from a lot of experience in repairing all kinds of cameras. GOOD LUCK! sorry for the bad news, Bob
