How to put home videos from my old camcorder onto the computer?

• hi i have a old camcorder that uses tape and i just bought a Hauppage PVR which connect my camcorder to the computer but i do not know any software that will let me record the video from my camera. please reccomend me some software and tell me how to specifically use it.

  Which camcorder? Need manufacturer and model, please. Just be cause it uses tape to store video does not mean it isn't digital. MiniDV and Digital8 tape are digital - and while you *can* import using the camcorder's analog port with that analog/digital converter" you got, the video quality will be a lot better if you install a firewire port on your computer and connect the camcorder's DV port wo the computer's firewire port with a firewire cable. If the camcorder is Hi8, 8mm, VHS, VHS-C, Beta or some other analog format, or if your computer does not have (or cannot handle) a firewire port, then using the analog/digital converter is the right thing to do. The other problem is that you did not tell us which computer or operating system you are using - so it is difficult to make a reccommendation on software to use for importing. Have you tried capturing the video with MovieMaker? Did any software come with the analog/digital converter? Since we have not identified the software, then we can't describe to you how to specifically use it...
