How to get Hi8 video to a computer?

How do I transfer video to a computer from a Hi8 cassette? ?

  • I was wondering how I'd go about transferring my video from a Hi8 cassette to my computer. Is there some kind of device that I could put my tape in and connect it to the computer with something like USB, S-Video, Firewire, RCA, etc? Or maybe I can get a cable and connect from the camera? I have an old Sony Handycam from the early 90's that obviously takes Hi8 cassettes. I'm interested in the first choice more though, is that possible?

    Hi8 is analogue tech. You'll need a converter for your computer. the converter connects to the computer via firewire and to the camera via analogue output. You can get cheap one like DAZZLE or get a good one from Canopus... Once you have purchased a solution, you can do what you like with your footage.
