Whats the best camcorders for snowboard filming?

Whats a good camcorder for making short films?

  • I'd love to get into filming, i currently do still life photography. I'm 17 years old and I feel this is my calling in life. I know good angles, all that so i think filming would be an extension of my love for photography! I was looking into buying the canon 7d, i currently have a canon rebel xsi but i've heard a lot about how cameras should double as camcorders. What do you think? Id like to stick with canon models because i love canon and haven't been disappointed yet. Budget id say around 1000, but im willing to go a bit above.

  • Answer:

I use a Flip Video to record short random films. I don't know if that will work for you but I like the Flip!! Good Luck, Madison Ryan (:

I purchased Canon VIXIA HF M32 camera to do some amateur photograhs and videos as a way of making some extra money. I has far exceeded my expectations. The software that came with it is a little difficult to master but, not impossible to learn. It is small, compact, and powerful. bought this for my brother to film his new born, in the USA and taken to UK. Nice that digital files were viewable in US and UK. Crisp bright video recordings made for great memories. Super light, long battery life, nice indoors performance. Hard to find fault with this camera. would certainly buy again.

if your looking to make short films stick with a camera that was designed to be a video camera. because if u use the canon 7d as a video camera you would need to get a fig rig to stop the shaking about when filming with cameras and that would reduce the overall quality. if you want to stick with canon i would recommend the canon XL1s although you cannot buy this straight from canon you can get one off ebay a new one not a used on but you can get a used one as well they are very robust. the XL series are best known for their lenses because you can change them etc. it also has a great microphone and u can get lots of addons if u so wish. it is also a shoulder mount camera and that would eliminate the hand shake problem so the video quality is better. it also records using tape so your video quality is top notch. BUT if you are willing to move from canon i would say teh sony HVR-HD1000E because its a whole step up and it has all the kit you need on it. and the sony is full HD.

http://youtu.be/MfYNyiBSbRk Flip News Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer level HD camcorders all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes – four different times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video. With a MiniDV tape camcorder, record 60 or 90 minutes ( camcorder settings), 90 seconds or less to change a tape and record for 60 or 90 more and repeat till you run out of tapes. You can get a Canon ZR960 for $250. It is a MiniDV tape camcorder, has a Mic jack. You need a firewire (IEEE1394) card ($25 to 30) for the computer and a firewire cable (less than 10) to be able to transfer video to your computer. To say this is not HD, think about this. It would cost in excess of $3500 to get a HD camcorder that could equal the video Quality of a $250 Canon MiniDV tape camcorder.
