Question about the Canon Hv20?

Sony HDR-HC5 or Canon HV20?

  • I know the Canon HV30 just came out but that's out of my budget right now. I want to know if I should get a HV20 or a HC5. I can get a brand new HC5 for $450 which is great and I can get a HV20 for $620 which is not too bad. If I could get a used HV30 for around $700 I would jump on it but it just came out so I wouldn't see that happening. I really need the camera in the next three weeks so there's no option of saving for an HV30 but I can probably get on later on.

    HV20. Main differences: HV20 has a mic-in jack. HDR-HC5 does not. HV20 can record in 24p. HDR-HC5 does not. HDR-HC5 has built-in infrared emitter for zero lux monochromatic (green & white) video capture (SuperNightShot); HV20 does not. HDR-HC5 has "Smooth Slow Record" feature (increases the frame rate so it is pretty fast for 3 seconds - normal speed playback is 12 seconds. This is not in high def, but it is pretty cool). HV20 does not. HV20 uses a "joy stick" button configuration for accessing features. HDR-HC5 uses the LCD panel as a touch screen for manu selection. I don't think either is "better", but more of what you are used to using.

yeah most deffinitely go with the hv20. trust me it is worth it. its a great camera. so many options. you can make your videos / films / w/e you shoot look so good with it. so many options. it even won like camera of the year for 2007. so trust me its a good camera, i recently bought one and i love it.
