Copying videos from camcorder to pc?

Why can't HD videos from my camcorder play properly on my PC?

  • I bought a Samsung HMX-Q10 HD camcorder. It's a nice little camcorder and it records in full HD @ 1980x1080. But the problem is, whenever I try to play the HD video files on my PC, the video lags horribly. My PC is pretty old (Intel Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.8GHz 2.79GHz, 512MB RAM) and the user manual says that you need at least an NVIDIA GeForce 8500 and an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 1.66GHz to be able to play the HD video files. Will I have to upgrade anything on my PC in order to play HD video files? Or will I have to suck it up and buy a new PC? If you can suggest a cheap PC that works well then that will be great.

  • Answer:

Your video/graphics card may not be able to handle that resolution. In that case, there isn't any software you can install to play the videos, only hardware such as an external video drive or updated graphics card, which would inolve you opening up the CPU, taking a few parts out, and installing a newer graphics card, and several other components which would make the project unworthy. In my opinion, you should update your computer. When buying a computer for your purpose, whether it be a CPU tower or a laptop, will include resolution capabilities, moniter/screen refresh rate, and size. Try your local Best Buy, Wal-Mart, or Office Depot to find a computer suitable for your needs.

My local computer shop was advertising on face book this week a used computer with better than those specs for $129.
