What is the difference between a DVD-R &DVD RW (D)?

What's the difference between DVD -RW and DVD+RW ? I need to buy for camcorder.?

  • Camcorder says it uses DVD-R , DVD-R DL , and DVD-RW. When I went to supermarket to get, they've got DVD+RW on shelf. Is this the same thing? (I've never understood the plus and minus signs in CD's and DVD's.)

    The bottom line is that for today, you can consider them both the same. In the early days they were different designs that came out at the same time. Hardware would support one but not the other. Then everyone started making hardware that would support both. So it doesn't matter today. You must have an older camcorder and it was built during that time so you have to use what they say... which is a minus. BTW, look harder at the supermarket and I think you will find some minuses.

no they are different formats. Its to make it harder for pirating. a DVD+ will only work on DVD+ players where as - only works on - . Go to an electrical shop like curry's or comet or PC world, they sell them.

My camcorder will use either, but DVD-RW seems to be the most popular ... and my DVD recorder only uses DVD-RW so that's what I use. There is more flexibility with DVD-RW and when finalised they can be played on an ordinary DVD player. There IS a difference between - & + and not all equipment can handle both.
