Where to connect a usb in a camcorder?

I have a JVC 32 Camcorder I have used USB cables and none of them worked. What can I use to connect it?

  • I have used every USB hook up they make nothing works. I know the camcorder uses DV to hookup to the computer, but I don't have a firewire port on my computer. If i have to use firewire is there anyway to hook the firewire up to a USB connector (like an extenstion cord) Thanks for your help sorry for any misspelling.

  • Answer:

connect it through the use of firewire port. buy a pci capture card with firewire port (less than $30) and have it installed to your computer. i haven't heard of such cable adaptor yet, but if it's available, im sure it is expensive. Better to get that pci capture card with firewire port for your desktop (or pcmcia capture card with firewire port - for laptops)

To the best of my knowledge you need to have IEEE 1394 (Firewire) to load digital video onto your PC/MAC. I don't believe USB supports DV and it would be way too slow to be useful anyway. For less than $100 you can get an AV/DV board and Pinnacle Studio editingsoftware. You'll have spent more than that on fiddling with USB cables. The Pinnalce board gives you the added bonus of being able to hook up your VCR and load video from it as well.

I have a JVC USB is strictly for digital pictures. The firewire is strictly for VIDEO transfer and webcam. You need to buy a firewire PCI card for your computer, and a cable. Read the owner's manual and make sure that you camcorder has firewire connections.
