Free is not going to get you anything much better that Windows Movie maker. Spend $69 to $129, and you will see there more than few NLE programs out there that when used, will make Windows Movie Maker the useless program it is. I agree with Palladini - if you want something better than WMM you'll need to spend some money. The good new is that Vegas Movie Studio, Adobe Elements and Serif Movie Plus are all reasonably priced and you may never need anything else.
