Buying a new HD camcorder?

What sort of things do you have to look at when looking in buying a hd camcorder?

  • I know when looking for laptops or computers you look at things like the processor, the RAM, and the hard drive. And with tvs you look at screen size and whether its full hd. But what specifications do you need to look at when looking at hd camcorders?

  • Answer:

It depends upon how you intend to use it. Will you need a tripod? Will you want to use it in low light conditions? Do you want to take it sky diving or scuba diving? Generally, you want to know the image sensor size, whether it has image stabilization and what the battery life will be. I also recommend checking out videomaker.com for reviews of camcorders. Good luck!!

-Sensor size -Lens size/quality -Pixel count (more than 2 MP is NOT necessarily a good thing! Too many pixels packed into a sensor - each one gets less light). -Recording format - compressed as little as possible! Seems that the consumer end is unfortunately settling on the heavy compression of AVCHD/H.264, so there aren't many options right now at all.

Like the reviews at camcorderinfo.com pretty thorough. they look at color gamut, night recording. I would also look at Dslr for video if you need a good camera.

One thing important to me and maybe not someone else would be night mode. I would look at something really high end and see what those specs were and then see what's close in quality.
