Sony vx2000 firewire?

Sony DCR-Vx2000 worth buying for $729.86?

  • I found a guy who sells his used DCR-VX2000. The thing is that he bought it used as well, so its used 2 times "but not that old." I get no receipt either! It says i get 4 tapes, tapes, does that mean i cant get it into a computer or what does those tapes do? I luckily get a fish eye as well. What do you think? • Answer:

most likely it is about 15 years old. but it is not the use but abuse that is a problem. These are the favorite weapon of skateboarders and having a fisheye lens is a real red flag. Of course if you intend to just bang it around too, then fair game. a better designed and brand new camera would be the Canon ZR960, with MSRP of $250 if you can get one. some factoids about the DCR VX2000. pre-2000, Sony built the Canon camcorder line so it is for design purposes the same camera as the more popular Canon XL1 and has the same flaws. These were the first consumer 3 CCD cameras in a digital format. That is the good part. The bad part is they used inferior CCDs of only 240k pixels! To compensate they off-set the CCDs so that the apparant resolution was improved. This trick worked ok for 4:3 standard format, but the resolution for widescreen 16:9 is so bad that most people complain that it looks perpetually out-of-focus. It is both digital and tape. you will need a firewire (ieee1394) port on your computer to get the digital video from the tape (miniDV).

heres the thing .. awesome camera, around 2004 , and even now the flourite lens and typical sony brilliance for sound and optics , and the all round high level of quality .. but SD , all minidv , all good apart from the age of the goods , here is the thing though , these are still good minus a few things , if you are a wedding videographer , and working still with SD dvd discs (not bluray) and patient with the print to disc via firewire .. it all depends on what you would use them , I would skip it personally and work with newer technology grab a Sony Nex VG20 Body , it will cost you an extra thousand , but will last you ten or so years and you will get the coin back then as you see now
