What is the less expensive but good video recording camera?

What is a good sound recording video camera that is not too expensive?

  • I'd like to put drum videos on youtube and show my friends so what would be a good video camera that has good sound quality? The sound is more important than the actual video.

  • Answer:

A lot of video cameras these days include a 1/8" microphone jack. You may be able to find a decent microphone with a 1/4" connector and use some form of adapter to plug that into a well priced camera. This is almost always the best way to get good sound out of your camera. It also lets you position your microphone and camera in different places, hopefully to achieve a better overall video. I would also advise you to look at the position of the microphone jack on the camera. Some of them can be in odd places where one of the adapters may not fit. You may still be able to get away with a 1/4" to 1/8" cable. Or you may just be able to buy a better quality webcam-friendly microphone with the 1/8" connector standard, and ignore most of the above. These seem to be geared toward picking up voice close distances, however. This doesn't answer your question directly, and I apologize for that. I have never seen a video camera with any decent quality built-in microphone. I have seen (and heard) the better results of using that microphone jack. You may also be able to save money by adding the microphone yourself.
